Three Hikes that Showcase Maui’s Beauty

To experience the full range of Maui’s diverse landscapes -- lush rainforests, coastal mountains, and volcanic terrain – consider these three hikes:

In Haleakalā National Park, the four-mile, round-trip Pipiwai Trail takes you through bamboo forests to the spectacular 400-foot Waimoku Falls. View elevated boardwalks, massive banyan trees, and several smaller waterfalls.

The Waihe'e Ridge Trail is a moderately challenging five-mile round-trip hike that climbs the windward slope of the West Maui Mountains. You'll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the valley, coastline, and, on clear days, neighboring islands.

The Sliding Sands Trail (Keonehe'ehe'e) in Haleakalā Crater is an otherworldly trail takes you into the volcanic crater with its unique Mars-like landscape. The challenging, but rewarding trail is 11 miles round-trip, but even hiking the first few miles offers incredible views. Consider starting early to catch the sunrise at the summit before your hike. Reservations are required only if you arrive between 3:00 - 7:00 am.

Don’t forget to bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and proper footwear to make sure that you fully enjoy your Maui adventures!
