Sweetie Pie Flees Hunters and
Joins the Sanctuary ‘Ohana

March 18, 2025

Feral pigs are abundant in the Hawaiian Islands and hunting them is a common practice here.

The gulch that borders Leilani Farm Sanctuary is home to many families of wild pigs. Sadly, we frequently hear the loud, disturbing blasts of hunters’ rifles being fired nearby — a horrifying disturbance of the peace.

Recently, a young feral pig, who may have been running from hunters, broke through the perimeter fence into the Sanctuary. He was determined to stay!

Pigs are known to be highly intelligent, and this guy certainly made the right decision when he found his way to us. Because he is so sweet and gentle, we’ve named him Sweetie Pie.

He loves being brushed and will readily flop over for belly rubs.

Sweetie Pie will have a forever home at Leilani Farm Sanctuary, where he will always be safe, loved, and well-cared for. He will be an ambassador for pigs everywhere and demonstrate to visitors that all animals are “someone, not something” — deserving of love, compassion and kindness.

Please consider sponsoring Sweetie Pie with a monthly donation to Leilani Farm Sanctuary. Your tax-deductible donation will provide food, shelter, and veterinary care for him.
