Sanctuary Welcomes Stephanie, the Baby Goat

June 3, 2026

One evening in late May, Maui resident Ellie and her boyfriend, Nainoah, were driving home from a trip to a remote part of the island, when they spotted a tiny black goat on the road. They pulled over and looked for other goats nearby, but when they found none, Ellie picked up the frightened baby—later named Stephanie—who cried softly but was too weak to resist.

They drove home with Stephanie curled up on Ellie’s lap and gave the starving, exhausted baby a bottle of milk to help keep her alive.

Over the next two days, Stephanie stayed inside Ellie’s house and quickly grew playful and energetic, happily jumping on and off the furniture.

Because Ellie did not have a yard suitable for a goat, she decided Stephanie would be better off at Leilani Farm Sanctuary, where other goats live safely and happily.

Ellie said, “Dropping her off was a little sad because she’s such a sweet, adorable goat, but I knew she would have a wonderful life at Leilani Farm Sanctuary.”

Ellie and Nainoah have since become regular volunteers at the sanctuary, pulling weeds in the pasture while spending time with Stephanie, who is always excited to see them.

We are grateful to Ellie and Nainoah for stopping to help an animal in need, caring for her, bringing her to her forever home, and continuing to visit as they watch baby Stephanie grow up.

You may sponsor Stephanie and help provide her food, shelter, and veterinary care with a tax-deductible donation of $25 per month.
