How do I book a tour, and what are the fees?
All tours at Leilani Farm Sanctuary are personalized and guided, requiring advance booking. To view availability and secure your spot, please utilize the "Book Now" link on our website. The standard tour fee for visitors is $50 per person. We offer a discounted rate of $35 per person for local residents (Kama'aina).
Where exactly is the sanctuary located on Maui?
We are located in the tranquil north shore area of Haiku, Maui, Hawaii. Haiku offers a quiet, secluded, and lush setting, making the sanctuary an ideal destination for rejuvenation and experiencing the authentic "aloha spirit" and beauty that Maui has to offer, away from the typical resort crowds.
How long should I plan to be at the sanctuary?
The personalized guided tour lasts approximately 60-75 minutes. We encourage visitors to arrive 15 minutes prior to the start time for check-in. After the guided portion, you are welcome to stay and explore the beautiful botanical gardens and scenic grounds at your own pace.
Are there age restrictions for the tour?
Yes, to ensure the safety of our animals and to maximize the educational experience for all guests, we require that visitors be seven (7) years old or older to participate. Our tours focus on deep humane education and meaningful interaction, which is best suited for older, attentive children and adults.
What should I wear and bring for the tour?
The tour involves moderate activity and proceeds rain or shine. For your safety and comfort, closed-toed shoes are required. We also strongly recommend bringing a hat or visor, sunscreen, and mosquito repellent.
What kind of animals will I get to meet during the tour?
You will have the opportunity to meet and interact closely with our diverse family of rescue animals, which includes pigs, rabbits, goats, chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, deer, sheep, tortoises, and more. You will meet specific animal ambassadors like Charlotte the pig, known for her high intelligence, and the turkey pair Gregory and Matthew and learn the unique story behind each rescue.
What makes the Leilani Farm Sanctuary experience unique?
Leilani offers a fusion of ethical action and unparalleled tropical beauty. The sanctuary sits on eight heavenly acres , complete with extensive botanical gardens, meandering paths, and a stunning pond overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It is more than a farm; it is a place where you can directly experience compassion while enjoying a sublimely beautiful Hawaiian setting. The experience is highly rated by global visitors, confirming its reputation as a quality Maui attraction.
How does my tour fee directly help the animals?
Your visit is a fundamental act of support and compassion. Because we are a non-profit organization, all tour fees are directed entirely toward the operational costs required to sustain the hundreds of animals who reside here. This includes providing their daily food, specialized veterinary care, and maintaining their safe, high-quality shelters. Your fee is not just the cost of admission; it is a direct investment in providing hope and a loving home to an animal in need.
May I support the animals after my tour is over?
Absolutely. Continuing support is vital to our mission. You can help by sponsoring one or more of the animals who touch your heart, providing them with reliable monthly funding for their care. Additionally, we offer various merchandise, including T-shirts and original artwork, all proceeds of which benefit the animals. We also have a special partnership where booking accommodations at the Hale Akua Garden Farm & Eco-Retreat Center generates a portion of funds to support the sanctuary through the Kind Traveler program.
